CIP process

Stainless steel pumps for wastewater from CIP process

The term ‘Cleaning in Place’ (CIP) refers to the localised cleaning of production systems in the food and pharmaceutical industry and essentially consists of the following steps:

  • Pre-rinsing to remove coarse soiling
  • Cleaning with an alkaline agent
  • Rinsing out the cleaning agent with water
  • Removal of limescale and scale with acid
  • Rinsing out the acid with water
  • Disinfection to kill vegetative microorganisms
  • Rinse out disinfectant with ultrapure water.

The wastewater from this process very corrosive. For that reason, submersible sewage pumps in the sump must be made of stainless steel (e.g. 1.4436).

O-rings should be made of Viton (FPM) and the mechanical seal of silicon carbide.

It is also recommended to insulate the cable with a protection hose if the cable sheath is not solvent-resistant.

Homa recommends the use of the CTP and CMX series.
