Project description

The Panama Canal expansion was the largest infrastructure project since the opening of the canal in 1914. The new widened canal provides shipping logistics and container shipping with more possibilities, a better service, improved logistics and supply-chain reliability.

Since its inauguration on 26 June 2016, the widened canal has improved the ability of the waterway to cope with the increasing needs of maritime trade using larger ships.

The widening included the construction of new locks on the Atlantic and Pacific sides of the waterway, the creation of a third shipping land and a doubling of the freight capacity.

The new locks are 21 metres wider and 5.5 metres deeper than the old ones. In spite of this, they use less water, since the water basins recycle 60% of the water.

HOMA convinces with the best technical offer

In co-operation with our partner company in Panama, Tama S.A., we were able to convince the client with the best technical offer, and converted one pumping station with two GRP cutter pumps.
